Marshals Season 2 is the second season of the CBS drama following Kayce Dutton as he builds a new life as a U.S. Marshal in Montana. The series continues the story of the Yellowstone character while expanding its own world of law enforcement, family conflict, tribal politics, organized crime and dangerous criminal cases.
After the events of the first season, Kayce faces an even more personal challenge. His son Tate is caught in a dangerous situation, forcing Kayce to put his duties as a Marshal aside and focus on protecting his family. At the same time, the Marshal team has its own problems, including Cal’s health struggles, leadership pressures and complicated relationships.
Season 2 also brings back the major characters from the first season and adds a familiar face from the wider Yellowstone universe. Jefferson White returns as Jimmy Hurdstrom in a recurring role, giving fans another connection between the two series.
The second season premieres on October 4, 2026, on CBS. The premiere is scheduled for 8:30 PM ET because of the NFL lead-in, with the series moving to its regular 8 PM ET/PT time slot beginning with Episode 2.
Marshals Season 2 Overview
Marshals is a Western crime drama centered on Kayce Dutton and an elite group of U.S. Marshals operating in Montana.
Unlike the ranch-centered stories of Yellowstone, Marshals puts law enforcement at the center of the narrative. Kayce uses his experience as a former Navy SEAL and his knowledge of the Montana landscape to handle cases that often involve criminals, militias, ranch conflicts, tribal issues and threats to local communities.
Season 2 continues that approach while making Kayce’s family life an even larger part of the story.

Marshals Season 2 Release Date
Marshals Season 2 premieres on Sunday, October 4, 2026.
The first episode has a special 8:30 PM ET/PT start time. Beginning with the second episode, the show is scheduled to return to its regular Sunday-night slot.
The season continues the story shortly after the major events of Season 1, making the new episodes particularly important for viewers who followed Kayce, Tate, Cal, Belle, Cruz and the rest of the Marshal team through the first season.
Marshals Season 2 Story
The second season begins with Kayce facing a crisis that hits much closer to home.
Tate is taken hostage, putting Kayce in an extremely personal situation. Instead of treating the problem like an ordinary Marshal operation, Kayce becomes determined to get his son back.
His decision creates tension between his responsibilities as a father and his responsibilities as a federal law-enforcement officer.
Kayce’s Search for Tate
Tate’s situation becomes one of the major storylines of Season 2.
Kayce has already experienced the cost of violence and loss, but his son’s disappearance gives him a different kind of motivation.
He is no longer simply chasing a suspect or protecting a community. He is fighting to bring his own child home.
This makes the opening of Season 2 more personal than many of the cases from the first season.
The East Camp Land Conflict
The search for Tate becomes connected to a larger criminal operation involving the East Camp land dispute.
This means Kayce’s family crisis is not isolated.
The investigation begins revealing a broader network of people interested in land, money and control.
The situation forces the Marshals to look beyond one individual target and consider how different criminal interests may be connected.
Kayce and His Marshal Team
Kayce’s approach to law enforcement can be difficult for his colleagues.
He is highly capable, but he also has a tendency to act on instinct, especially when someone he loves is in danger.
Season 2 continues exploring whether Kayce can balance his personal instincts with the discipline required of a federal Marshal.
His relationship with Pete, Belle, Cruz and Miles remains an important part of the series.
Cal’s Story in Season 2
Pete “Cal” Calvin remains one of the key members of the Marshal team.
Season 1 introduced a serious health problem for Cal, and that storyline continues into the second season.
His medical situation creates another challenge because Cal is not simply dealing with a personal problem. He also has responsibilities within the team.
Cal and Leadership
Cal’s health forces him to reconsider how much responsibility he can continue carrying.
The team still needs leadership, while Cal has to determine how his personal circumstances affect his professional life.
This gives Season 2 a more emotional storyline alongside its criminal investigations.
Cal and Maddie
Cal’s relationship with his daughter Maddie also receives attention.
Their relationship has been complicated, but Season 1 created signs of a possible change between them.
Season 2 has an opportunity to explore whether Cal and Maddie can build a stronger relationship while dealing with everything happening around them.
Cruz’s Future
Andrea Cruz is another important member of the Marshal team.
Her future becomes more complicated in Season 2 as she considers a move connected to Washington, D.C.
That possibility raises questions about her career, her relationship with the team and what she wants from her future.
For Cruz, the new season is not only about chasing criminals. It is also about deciding where she belongs.
Belle Skinner’s Story
Belle Skinner returns as one of the central members of the Marshal team.
She has to balance her professional responsibilities with her personal life.
The events surrounding Cal also have consequences for Belle, making her storyline more closely connected to the team’s emotional struggles.
Her character continues to show that being a Marshal does not mean leaving personal problems at the door.
Rainwater and Broken Rock
Thomas Rainwater remains an important part of the story.
The Broken Rock reservation continues to face political and social pressure, while Rainwater has to deal with questions surrounding his leadership.
The younger generation is also pushing for its own ideas about the future.
This creates another storyline running alongside Kayce’s Marshal cases.
Rainwater’s Leadership
Rainwater has spent years trying to protect Broken Rock and its interests.
Season 2 places additional pressure on him.
He must respond to political opposition while dealing with people who question whether his leadership approach is still the right one for the reservation.
His storyline adds a political and community dimension to the series.
