Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave takes the series’ classic tactical formula and expands it dramatically, weaving together four interconnected hero stories into one battle for the world’s fate.
Developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo, Fortune’s Weave is a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, releasing September 17, 2026.

The Story
Set in the prosperous Dagdan Empire, warriors gather in the capital, Dagsion, for the Heroic Games — a tournament where the winner is granted a single wish. Four fighters compete for very different reasons:

- Cai — fighting to save his imprisoned father
- Dietrich — driven by his love of battle
- Theodora — a queen defending her homeland
- Leda — seeking revenge for her father’s murder
But the games are only the setup. In the future, the demon god Balor threatens to destroy the world, and a mysterious soul is sent back in time to reshape these four heroes’ destinies — giving their past choices real weight over what’s to come.
Four Campaigns in One
Rather than following a single hero, players switch between all four storylines between major matches, each with distinct combat styles, abilities, and supporting casts. It’s an ambitious structure — engaging, but with a lot to track.
Combat and Systems

At its core, Fortune’s Weave is still classic Fire Emblem tactics: grid-based positioning, weakness exploitation, and class-based team building. New layers include:
- Combat Arts — stronger attacks that cost weapon durability
- Blaze Arts — character-specific powerful abilities with real risk
Battle rewinds return too, letting players experiment freely.
Beyond the Battlefield
Between fights, players explore Dagsion and the wider continent — training, recruiting allies (some requiring gifts or gestures first), building relationships, taking on side quests, and exploring dungeons that use a different, simpler combat style than the main battles. A time-management system adds pressure, since not everything can be done at once.
Scale and Length
Early impressions place Fortune’s Weave among the series’ largest entries, with four full story paths adding up to a hefty campaign. That scale is a double-edged sword — great for RPG fans who want depth, potentially overwhelming for those after a quicker experience.
Presentation

Built for Switch 2, the game supports TV, tabletop, and handheld modes with HDR, and carries an estimated 29.5 GB file size on the U.S. eShop. Visually, it leans into vivid character designs and fantasy environments true to the series.
Verdict
Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is an ambitious entry: four heroes, one time-bending story, and a mix of deep tactics, exploration, and recruitment. The scale is its biggest asset and its biggest risk — some side content may feel thinner than the core battles, and it demands real time investment. Still, this shapes up as one of the series’ most ambitious outings yet.
